Swallows Nest

We designed the swallows nest as a children’s room due to its access via a steep staircase and because it is tucked away in the eaves but there are a lot of big kids out there who want to keep it all to themselves! It has a vaulted ceiling with oak rafters, skylights, oak flooring and its own lovely bathroom, with a roll top bath, antique wash stand with handmade wash basin from Malawi and two single beds.

Situated as we are in the heart of a rural landscape it would be crazy to do anything other than make the most of the opportunity to provide guests with the most wonderful food. Therefore wherever possible what you will eat for breakfast will have travelled as little as possible and we will know its provenence. So to complement our home baked bread, you can choose from our free range eggs, home reared, free range local bacon and sausages and if you’re lucky some homegrown fried tomatoes, or seasonal mushrooms as well.

Home rearing.

In the summer of 2011 we began rearing our own ginger Tamworths, supplied as weaners from champion breeder, Mrs Barbara Warren, Court Bleddyn Farm. The Tamworths enjoy a whole acre in which to roam at Clearvewe, forage amongst the hawthorn, enjoy plenty fresh vegetation from our kitchen garden, fruit trees and hazlenut tree. We take the pigs just a few miles to the award winning specialist rare breed butcher NS JAMES of Raglan, they provide a UK7046, EC status service to our specific requirements. We have a foodie micro site here where you can enjoy some of our favourite recipes.

You can walk from your door at Clearvewe and discover Springdale Wildlife reserve. The reserve offers superb views across the Usk valley up to the Brecon Beacons and down to the Severn Estuary, and a diverse range of habitats from flower-rich hay meadows and butterfly slopes to semi-natural woodland and bracken fields.

Clearvewe is 158m above sea level and from the hill top location their are views over 13 counties, valleys, rivers, mountains, all steeped in the unique and rich history of the borderlands between England and Wales.
